North Korea wants, in response to the US military threats, to test a nuclear weapon across the Pacific Ocean.
The country’s foreign minister, Ri Yong Ho, spoke with reporters in New York and told them that the final decision would have been taken by his boss, Kim Jong Un. Ri was to address the United Nations General Assembly on Friday but gave up.
“This could probably mean the strongest hydrogen bomb test over the Pacific Ocean. Regarding which measures to take, I don’t really know since it is what Kim Jong Un does,” said Ri.
Ri’s comments came shortly after Kim said Trump would “pay dearly” for threatening North Korea’s “total destruction” during his UN speech Tuesday.
In a rare statement broadcast live in the room, Kim said he “will consider with seriousness exercising of a corresponding, highest level of hard-line countermeasure in history,” regarding US threats.
“I am now thinking hard about what response he could have expected when he allowed such eccentric words to trip off his tongue,” Kim said. “I will surely and definitely tame the mentally deranged US dotard with fire.”
Kim also said that these comments reflect a “mentally deranged behavior.”
Japan’s Defense Minister, Itunori Onodera, recognized the threat of a sudden increase in tensions.
“We cannot deny the possibility it may fly over our country,” Onodera said on Thursday. Japan has been exposed to two North Korean missile excursions in latest weeks.
